Stella McCartney: Rewilding and Rechilding in Spring 2023

Stella McCartney was born in London to a family of creators who were legendary in public, but ordinary at home. She was kept grounded by her late mother and muse Linda – a photographer, vegetarian and animal rights activist whose values and innate appreciation for beauty continue to inspire her today.

Stella believed that fashion should be equated with fairness, respect and equality.

Based on her beliefs, in 2001, Stella McCartney launched her eponymous luxury fashion house and showed her first collection in Paris. A lifelong vegetarian, she has never used leather, feathers, skin or fur in any of her designs since day one – a revolutionary stance, then and still now. Since those first seeds were planted, the brand has continued to grow its sustainability thought leadership through material and supply chain innovation, partnerships and more. Being hugely inspirational.

Her Spring 2023 collection is inspired by rewilding and rechilding – restoring the planet around us and the child within. She launched not only keeps launching earth-positive collections but also educates consumers on the importance of sustainability and natural resources thru fashion.

Since 1970, 70% of animal species have disappeared. Rewilding restores natural lands by giving them back to Mother Earth, removing human intervention and reintroducing threatened and endangered native species.

Rechilding encourages us to stay wild and bring our inner child out. It is inspired by psychotherapy theory, guiding adults to a child-like state in order to be more positive and help with depression, anxiety and self-esteem.

Living harmoniously with nature, returning to the innocence of childhood, embracing our wild selves – this is Stella McCartney Spring 2023.  The most sustainable collection to date is made with 85% conscious materials.

  • Evolving the lynx’s feline aesthetic, tiger prints feature on recycled polyester oversized coating

  • Menswear tailoring and denim with circular hardware fastenings

  • Ocelot spots are blurred on PVC-free sequinned cut-out dresses

  • All-in-ones and Fur Free Fur coats innovated from a new wool alternative.

  • Tiger continues on plant-based denim, alongside vintage-effect floral digital prints

  • The S-Wave features on a range of bags and low and mid-top vegan trainers c

rafted from a plant-based alternative to animal leather repurposed from grape waste

  • The Elyse platform shoe is revisited as a playful vegan clog.

Stella McCartney keeps the industry on its toes, and keeps pushing its limits and minds to be more conscious and break from the old ways to become earth friendly not only thru her own brands but also in 2019, she entered into a partnership with LVMH, and will also serve as a special advisor on sustainability to Bernard Arnault and the conglomerate’s executive committee.

Honourable thank you to Stella McCartney for her exemplary work and being an inspirational pioneer for the industry and the world.

Love, Selin x
